Conditions of Entry

Conditions of Entry to the Melbourne Showgrounds 

Entry by any person into the Melbourne Showgrounds is subject to these terms and conditions.



a. Persons entering Melbourne Showgrounds are deemed to have accepted, and understood as binding on them, these conditions and any accompanying risks, obligations and responsibilities. It is your responsibility to read and inform yourself of these conditions.
b. Unauthorised entry to Melbourne Showgrounds may be liable to prosecution.
c. Persons who are accompanied by minors are responsible for the care, acts or omissions and supervision of those minors at all times..
d. The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria Limited (RASV) is not liable nor does it accept any responsibility for any loss or damage whatsoever to any person or property or the death or injury suffered to any person or animal whilst at Melbourne Showgrounds.
Persons entering Melbourne Showgrounds indemnify RASV against any loss or liability, cost or expense or damages suffered by them, or any person under their control arising from or in relation to the entry either by person, vehicle or otherwise.
RASV reserves the right to inspect or search bags, baskets or other receptacles brought into or out of Melbourne Showgrounds and search all persons, their clothing and other items of such persons.
g. Persons causing a disturbance or refusing to comply with directions or requests from RASV will be ejected from Melbourne Showgrounds.
h. RASV may refuse admission to or eject persons from Melbourne Showgrounds at its sole discretion.
Persons entering Melbourne Showgrounds must adhere to the Occupational Health & Safety legislation and in particular RASV’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy which is available on RASV's website.
j. Melbourne Showgrounds is a Smoke Free Venue. Smoking and the use of tobacco and /or e-cigarette products is not permitted within the Melbourne Showgrounds.
RASV conducts surveillance on Melbourne Showgrounds. A person entering Melbourne Showgrounds maybe photographed, filmed, taped or subjected to monitoring by close circuit television. A person by entering Melbourne Showgrounds consents to RASV or third parties appointed by RASV photographing, filming or taping them. RASV or third parties appointed by the RASV can broadcast, publish, license and use any photographs, film, recordings or images without compensation to the subject of the photographs, film, recordings or images. RASV, third parties and anyone acquiring from them a right to use the material are not liable to any person for its use in any way.
l. Entry to Melbourne Showgrounds does not guarantee automatic entry to all events and activities on at Melbourne Showgrounds during the period of entry.
m. Persons may not without the express authority of RASV, enter any area where persons are prohibited to enter as indicated by signage, barriers, fences, ropes, doors or otherwise. Persons who do enter such areas may be ejected from Melbourne Showgrounds.
Parking is restricted to bays as designated by RASV from time to time and vehicles must not block emergency egress doors or emergency vehicle access roads and are to give way to emergency vehicles.
All accidents or emergencies are to be immediately reported to RASV:
  • during event hours on 9281 7444;
  • after hours on 9372 2744.
Persons must obey all signs, notices, directions or requests given by RASV whilst at Melbourne Showgrounds.
Persons must not at any time while at Melbourne Showgrounds (without the permission of RASV):
  • pick or break or uproot any flower, shrub, tree or plant and must not climb on any structure or tree;
  • sell or expose for sale any goods or services;
  • distribute any advertising or promotional material;
  • throw any item;
  • deposit or throw litter other than in an receptacle provided for litter;
  • use offensive or indecent language;
  • light or smoke cigerettes, e-cigarettes or tobacco products.
RASV will not be liable for any loss or damage suffered by any person or caused by any acts or omissions of RASV or employees, agents or contractors of RASV, or any other persons present at Melbourne Showgrounds.
Persons entering Melbourne Showgrounds indemnify RASV against all liability for or in respect of any claims, demands, actions, suits or proceedings, costs, expenses, loss, damage, injury or death of any person arising out of or in connection with any of your acts or omissions while at Melbourne Showgrounds.

Additional entry conditions and requirements may apply to ticketed events.



Amateur photographers are permitted to take photographs in Melbourne Showgrounds, providing that the:
  • the photographer is not causing annoyance or inconvenience to other Showgrounds patrons;
  • the subject of the photo is not one detailed in the Summary Offences Act 1966 (Vic);
  • the subjects have given their consent (if under 18 then their parent’s consent); and
  • the photos are not to be sold or used for commercial gain.
Professional photographers must seek prior written approval from RASV before taking any photographs.



Persons entering Melbourne Showgrounds are advised that:
  • alcohol may only consumed within designated licensed areas;
  • intoxicated persons will not be permitted to enter;
  • intoxicated persons will be removed from Melbourne Showgrounds;
  • alcoholic beverages must not be taken into Melbourne Showgrounds and are subject to immediate confiscation;
  • checking procedures will apply to prevent persons possessing liquor from entering;
  • it is an offence for minors to purchase or consume alcohol;
  • it is an offence to sell to or supply minors with alcohol;
  • persons supplying alcohol to minors will be reported to Victoria Police;
  • penalties under the Liquor Control Reform Act 1998 (VIC) apply.


Restricted and Prohibited Items

The following restricted or prohibited items are not permitted into Melbourne Showgrounds and are subject to immediate confiscation:
  • Glass or breakable containers;
  • Cans or metal containers;
  • Alcoholic beverages;
  • Illicit drugs;
  • Flares or Fireworks;
  • Adhesive stickers;
  • Any whistle, loud hailer, public address system or other electronic or broadcast device;
  • Laser Pointers or any object which might be used to distract, hinder or interfere with the conduct of any event or any animal or person taking part in an event;
  • Prohibited weapons or controlled weapons within the meaning of the Control of Weapons Act 1990 (Vic);
  • Knives or other dangerous weapons including potential missiles;
  • Skateboards, scooters, roller blades or bicycles;
  • Large items that cannot fit under seats including eskies and bags;
  • Animals unless approved by RASV;
  • Flags or banners over 1m x 1m in size;
  • Any item that person intends or another person intends to distribute, hawk, sell, offer or expose for sale or distribution;
  • Any object, device or substance that may be used to deface or damage any part of Melbourne Showgrounds, such as any spray paint or permanent markers;
  • Balloons;
  • Other items as determined by RASV management that may cause injury or public nuisance.
