Entries are now open for one of the most prestigious fanciers competitions in Australia, the Royal Melbourne Poultry Show.
Consistently boasting more than 1,400 entries from 120 exhibitors, the competition provides breeders with an opportunity to benchmark their birds with a full range of Australian Poultry Standard classes available to enter.
Considered the pinnacle by poultry fanciers, the prestigious G.J Sheppard Award is presented to Supreme Champion in Show.
Conducted by The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV), the judging will take place from Saturday 8 – Sunday 9 July at Melbourne Showgrounds, with nationally recognised poultry experts providing invaluable feedback to exhibitors.
To celebrate the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Rooster, all ‘roosters’ entered into the 2017 Royal Melbourne Poultry Show will automatically be eligible for assessment by a special guest judge. The judge will determine which bird takes home the title of Best Rooster in Show.
Other major awards to be presented include Reserve Champion in Show, and Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion in each category. Entries close on Friday 9 June.
The Royal Melbourne Poultry Show is open to the public on Saturday 8 July from 10:00am – 4:00pm and Sunday 9 July from 9:00am – 1:00pm.
Public admission into the event is free.
