The Genetics Australia Share Dairy Farmer Awards

The Genetics Australia Share Dairy Farmer Awards are proudly presented by The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria, with the assistance of the United Dairy Farmers of Victoria and Victorian Agricultural Shows Limited.

The long time association with our principal sponsor, Genetics Australia Co-operative Limited, has seen the program develop into the premier share farming awards in south eastern Australia.
The Genetics Australia Share Dairy Farmer Awards

Introduced in 1979, the Share Dairy Farmer Awards recognises excellence in share farming based on key performance indicators, including financial and business relationship management, optimisation of available resources, pasture and feed management and livestock management.

The objectives of the program are as follows:

Reward top sharefarmers for their contribution to productivity.
Encourage young farmers into the dairy industry.
Extend the performances of the top sharefarmers to others by way of a Farm Open Day.
Raise the profile of the share farming profession.
Encourage the formation of a good relationship between the share farmer and the owner.

Entry Requirements

The Share Dairy Farmer Awards are open to participants from Victoria and the Riverina district of southern New South Wales.

The cattle on the farm are to be the bona fide property of the sharefarmer or the farm owner and the partnership is to have been operating together for at least two years.
Son or daughter sharefarmers are eligible to enter provided there is a written agreement between the parties.

Entries are now open for the 2010 Genetics Australia Share Dairy Farmer Awards.

Entries close Friday June 11 2010.

Judging Process

Entrants complete a questionnaire on a range of criteria regarding their performance and business, which are utilised by regional judging panels in their assessment, which includes property visits.

Regional winners qualify for statewide assessment, from which the Share Dairy Farmer of the Year Award is determined.

Awards Presentation

The Awards presentation will be held during the Royal Melbourne Dairy Show, with key Dairy Industry and Agribusiness representatives in attendance, and a strong presence of rural media.

Five other trophies are awarded to the state finalists. For the purpose of the competition, the state is divided into six zones, covering the share farming community as equally as possible. Each zone winner will receive semen packages to the value of $700.
