DAY FAMILY SWEEPS PRESTIGIOUS SHEEP INTERBREED
The Suffolk Ram by A.E. Day and Sons Bordertown SA, has taken out the top prize for Interbreed Champion Ram at the Royal Melbourne Show Sheep Competition, conducted by The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria.
Owner Mr Alistair Day accepted the award, which includes prize gifts from Paton Livestock Equipment.
The Interbreed competition, held on the first Sunday of the Royal Melbourne Show, promotes and celebrates excellence in sheep breeding.
AE Jorgensen Family Trust Antwerp VIC, was awarded Reserve Champion for their White Suffolk Ram.
In a rare event, A.E. Day and Sons, Bordertown SA were also named champions for the Champion Ewe for the Poll Dorset. The Day family including, Alistair, Lachy and Graeme, were on hand to accept the honour.
The Corriedale Ewe owned by Bron Ellis, Sweetfield Corriedale Stud took out the Reserve Champion.
“Congratulations to all the 2018 Royal Melbourne Show Sheep Competition Interbreed Champions on their outstanding entries and continued success,” said Paul Guerra, CEO, The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV).
“With over 700 sheep entered in 2018, the continued growth of the competition is testament to the excellent exhibitor experience the Show offers.”
“The competition is a fantastic opportunity for breeders to compete, benchmark the quality of their livestock, and receive invaluable feedback from highly respected industry expert judges.”
The Royal Melbourne Show Sheep Competition concludes tomorrow, with the Sheep Schools and Youth Competition.
