Max & Kristin Marriott

Melbourne Royal is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Max and Kristin Marriott and Frank Ahern.

Max and Kristin will be fondly remembered as long-time supporters of Melbourne Royal in particular as Clydesdale exhibitors in the Horses in Action competition at the Melbourne Royal Show. Max was proudly elected to Melbourne Royal Council in 1987 was a recipient of a President’s Medal in 2008, acknowledged as a Life Councillor for his dedicated service in 2012 and awarded Honorary Life Membership in the same year.

Our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to Max and Kristin’s family and friends.

Frank Ahern

Melbourne Royal is saddened to hear of the recent passing of Frank Ahern.

Melbourne Royal was a very important part of Frank’s life, having been awarded a President’s Medal in 2008.

Frank attended the Melbourne Royal Show for over 75 of the Society’s 175 years, initially as an exhibitor in the Dog Section going back to the 1940’s and then as a steward from 1964 until 2015 and subsequently attending as an honorary steward (including seven out of nine days at 2022 Melbourne Royal). It was also a tremendous honour for him to also have been invited to be on the judging panel for the dog section at the 1971 Melbourne Royal Show. Frank’s interest extended beyond the dog section he also exhibited chooks in the Poultry Section in the 1980’s.

We extend our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to Frank’s family and friends.

Joan Edwards

It is with great sadness that Melbourne Royal acknowledges the passing of Joan Edwards on 10 February 2023.

Joan worked at the Show every year for around 45 years: long days starting early and finishing late. Joan was an Honorary Life Member of Melbourne Royal, as well as a familiar face of Melbourne Royal’s Woodchop competition for nearly 50 years alongside her husband Neil. Joan joined the Woodchop Committee and soon after, became a steward for the competition from 1979.

We extend our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to Joan’s family and friends.
