Mr Peter Cook – Red Poll Feature Show
Peter is the owner of Barana Simmentals. Located north of Coolah on the North West slopes of New South Wales, Peter has operated the 2300 acre [940 hectare] cropping & beef cattle enterprise since 1980. Barana Simmental, established in 1980 is well known and respected in the Australian stud beef cattle industry. Peter began showing at major Royal Shows in 1986 and ceased in 2001.
In recent years Peter has been involved with the Coolah Central School through their cattle program. Barana Simmentals provided cattle for the school to enable students to compete in the show ring and carcase competitions.
Peter has judged at Perth Royal twice, Sydney Royal several times, the 2001 Beef Expo in New Zealand, Canberra Royal, the National Beef Show, Qld RNA Ekka in Brisbane and Feature Shows in NSW, Queensland & Victoria, the Red Angus National Show & Sale in Dubbo, major shows in Toowoomba, Bathurst, Dubbo & Tamworth and numerous smaller country shows.
Mrs Lucy Newham – Australian Lowline Murray Grey, Maine Anjou and Blonde d’Aquitaine
Lucy is a stud stock breeder and was Co-Principal of Pandora Murray Grey Stud, with long experience in the beef cattle industry.
Lucy has been judging both Stud and Commercial cattle for over 40 years, overseeing breeds at Regional and Royal Shows including Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Adelaide.
Lucy has been heavily involved in youth education and has officiated at a number of Junior Stock Shows.
In 1994 Lucy wrote and published a book “Beef Cattle Breeding, Feeding and Showing”. From this Lucy has been involved in many teaching schools both in Australia and New Zealand run by various groups and individuals in order to involve and educate people of all ages and experience about the Beef industry.
Mr Peter Collins – Speckle Park
Peter was the Co-Principal of the well-known Merrigrange Angus Stud at Tennyson. Peter was in charge of all aspects of planning and management with the Stud and farms including his own 100 hectares of irrigation.
Currently Peter is the Principal of Merridale Angus Stud based mainly on Merrigrange bloodlines, purchasing mostly elite embryos to rapidly expand the herd. Merridale cattle have been successful at Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, gaining Interbreed Champions at all these Royal Shows. Peter has a commercial cattle enterprise as well and operates a 250-cow dairy on one of the farms.
Peters has judged at Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Hobart Royals. Recent shows Peter has judged at include the 2016 Melbourne Royal, 2016 Red Angus Feature Show Sydney Royal and the 2016 White Faced National Show and Sale Wodonga.
Mr Troy Setter – Shorthorn Family
Troy is the current CEO of Consolidated Pastoral Company, Australia’s largest privately owned cattle producing company, and is a director of the Australian Live Exporters Council. Based in Brisbane, he has formal qualifications in Rural Science from the University of New England and Agribusiness from Harvard Business School.
He has been associated with the cattle industry for over 25 years and his areas of involvement have included all aspects of the supply chain, domestic and international logistics, trading and shipping, marketing and investment as well as genetic improvement.
Troy has 20 years’ experience of judging cattle in Australia with a long time involvement at Brisbane Ekka and Sydney Royal, last judging the Herefords at Sydney Royal in 2017.
Mr Sean Kallady – Red Angus
The Kallady family has had a long involvement with the Royal Melbourne Show, showing cattle since the 1950s. As a junior, Sean represented Victoria in the Junior Judging State Finals and has since gone on to judge cattle throughout regional Australia and at major Shows. Sean has judged internationally in America at a number of local fairs and was a part of the State judging team in Kentucky.
Sean has a wealth of industry experience and has managed Angus and Hereford studs, prepared cattle for many breeds throughout Australia, purchased overseas cattle and embryos for customers and has won a number of Interbreed Championships at Royal Shows.
Currently, Sean is the Gippsland Area Manager for World Wide Sires, runs a successful paddock to plate business and operates a small but elite Angus stud with his sons.
Mr Richard Sullivan – Hereford and Santa Gertrudis
Richard lives and works in the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria as a livestock property manager and private consultant with a primary focus on beef cattle properties. Richard’s selection or breeding has produced Royal Show Champions, Interbreed Champions, two Calgary Stampede Champions and an American Royal Champion.
Richard has judged cattle at most Royal shows in Australia as well as breed national shows and sales, feature breed shows, special breed and interbreed heifer shows and has been a guest speaker at several cattle events. In addition to judging the Australian Finals for Junior Judging, Richard has judged several breeds including, but not limited to Herefords, Charolais’, Devon and Galloway.
Mr Sam Martin – Angus
Sam is currently Livestock Manager at Maria River Cattle Co, a large scale F1 Angus/Wagyu operation based in the New England NSW that comprises of both breeding and backgrounding enterprises. In conjunction his wife Jodie, Sam runs Southcote Shorthorns on their property at Walcha after purchasing the Stud at the beginning of 2017. Previously to that they owned and operated Kawana Lea Shorthorns which has now been amalgamated with Southcote.
Over the last 8 years Sam has enjoyed judging a number of shows across the Eastern seaboard and Tasmania with the features being Launceston Royal in 2017, Upper Beef Bonanza, North Coast National and Premier Beef fest.
Peter Falls – Simmental
Peter, along with his children Andrea, Lachlan, Suzanne and Mum Yvonne, operate Malton Shorthorns on three properties at Finley and Hay. In addition to this, Peter is kept busy operating an Australian Livestock Transport Business.
Peter has extensive experience in the Show ring having judged at Royal Melbourne Show several times, Wodonga National Whiteface Show and Sale, Royal Canberra Show, Dubbo Shorthorn National Show and Sale, Sydney Royal and the Murray Grey National Show and Sale, Royal Geelong Show and many country shows around Australia.
Jake Phillips – Limousin
Jake is the current proprietor of Phillips Cattle Company, Naracoorte SA where he manages stud Murray Grey and commercial Angus cattle. Jake is a livestock buyer for Teys Australia, managing the supply chain coordination, livestock assessment and purchasing.
Some of Jake’s industry achievements include Trans – Tasman Champion Young Beef Cattle Judge 2013, Finalist at the Cattle Council of Australia Rising Champion Initiative 2011 and South Australian Young Achiever of the Year (Finalist) (Career Achievement) 2011.
Jake has judged at a number of major Shows across the country with recent appointments including the 2017 Limousin National Show and Sale in Wodonga, 2017 Noorat Show & Red Poll Feature Show, Murray Grey National Show and Sale and the Royal Adelaide Show Hereford.
Tim Lord – Galloway Family
Tim has spent his entire life immersed in the cattle industry. He has owned and bred Poll Hereford and Angus cattle whilst preparing and showing most beef cattle breeds throughout New South Wales and Victoria as well as all the Royal Shows along the eastern seaboard.
Tim is currently the manager of KO Angus in Kangaloon, NSW. He has extensive experience as a judge, judging many of Australia’s Royal Shows including Launceston, Melbourne and Sydney over an 18-year career. In addition to having experience in judging a variety of breeds,
Tim has also had experience judging paraders at Agricultural Shows around Australia.
Andrew Manson – Charolais
Andrew is the fifth generation living on his property in Newry, Gippsland with wife Caroline and their four children William, Angus, Chloe and Tabitha. The family Poll Hereford Stud, established in 1954, runs approximately 120 Poll Hereford stud cows.
Andrew began showing at the Royal Melbourne Show in 1999 with his first exhibit Wanrua Stirling that went on to be the Supreme Poll Hereford exhibit. Since then, Andrew has been exhibiting continually at the Royal Melbourne Show with a number of animals winning broad ribbons.
In recent years, Andrew has judged at Lang Lang, Dandenong and Berwick Shows.
Mr Tony Golding – Interbreed Competition
Tony started Little Meadows Angus with wife Karen, in 1994. Tony has shown their Angus cattle in Western Australia and the Eastern States, winning many championships including nine Interbreed titles at the Perth Royal Show, Grand Champion Bull at the 2002 Angus National in Wodonga and Reserve Senior Champion Female at the 2012 Sydney Royal Show.
Over the past 15 years, Tony has had the honour to judge at Western Australian Agricultural Shows and State Breed Shows on 18 occasions. In 2013, Tony was fortunate to have judged at the Bendigo National Beef Show and the Angus breed at the Royal Queensland Show in Brisbane.
Tony is passionate for the education and involvement of youth in the cattle industry and to this end, was Chairperson of the Angus Australia Board Youth and Extension Committee and inaugural Chair of the Angus Foundation.
